    Chinese Medicine, Pain and the Opiate Epidemic

    Last year the department of Health and Human Services (HHS) declared a public health emergency to address the “opiate crisis”. According to HHS opiate overdoses accounted for more than 42,000 deaths in 2016, more than any previous year on record. An estimated 40% of opiate overdose deaths involved a prescription opiate. The statistics show that this problem is not limited to drug addicts. Many of these people are Veterans, the elderly, and people with chronic pain from traumatic injury.
